Matt Mahon

Yogi & TCM practitioner

You don’t work at Myokinetics without a deep and personal understanding of the impact of, and recovery from, serious injury and our yoga instructor and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapist, Matt is no exception. He started practising hatha yoga in the US in 2001 as a means of rehabilitating a serious back injury and has since practised hot vinyasa and bikram before finally settling on his favoured practise ashtanga a vinyasa which he has taught since 2011.

He and, many of his students, can attest to the positive impact of regular practise not just for rehabilitation but to strengthen and protect against future injury, as well as improving mood and overall mental health.

Not content to excel at yoga, Matt has also completed his BSc (Hons) in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture through Wrexham Glyndwr University. He has been trained in 8 principal diagnostic methods and 5 Element theory. This covers acupuncture, moxabustion, cupping, tui na massage, musculoskeletal intervention, taping, nutrition, and anatomy & physiology.

In line with Myokinetics core principals, Matt claims no abilities to "cure" any disease or disorder but rather helps to mitigate related symptoms and identify primary causative factors so that the patient/student can find and bring balance into their life, through which many issues either fall away or cease to be problematic.

Where possible Matt tries to understand the western scientific model as it relates to both yoga and TCM, in part so that the patient/student may have a better understanding and confidence in the treatment, but also to drive a more evidence based approach to treatment. In other words he practises the eastern traditions without the ‘woo-woo’ and we could all do with less woo-woo in our lives!
